About this event
Some songs bring back the excitement of waiting for Christmas. Others remind us of people, places, and traditions we hold dear. Folsom Lake College Falcon's Choir and Cantare Chorale of the Sierra Foothills invite you to revisit those memories through Christmas Nostalgia, conducted by Mariia Pechenova. The program brings together beloved Christmas favorites, beautiful choral works, and a touch of holiday humor. The graceful beauty of Mozart's Laudate Dominum invites reflection, while It's Beginning to Look Like Christmas and Frosty the Snowman recall the anticipation and fun of the season. Where Are You Christmas? offers a tender reminder that its joy can return in unexpected ways. The choirs will be accompanied by collaborative pianist Dina Tikhoniuk and joined by guest artists Gavin Dudgeon on violin, Jasper Hu on cello, and Paul Tumbagahon on percussion. A special moment comes with Silent Night, when the audience is invited to sing with the choirs, accompanied by the gentle sound of handchimes. Together, performers and listeners share a familiar carol that has been part of Christmas celebrations for generations. Bring someone you love, take a break from the holiday rush, and make live music part of your Christmas tradition. About the Ensembles Folsom Lake College Falcon's Choir brings together students and community members with diverse musical backgrounds and experience levels. Under the direction of Mariia Pechenova, the ensemble won first place in the mixed choir category at the Singing World International Choral Competition. The choir performs regularly at Harris Center for the Arts and local events, giving singers opportunities to develop their musicianship and share their accomplishments with the community. Cantare Chorale of the Sierra Foothills has brought singers from diverse backgrounds together to share choral music since 1992. The nonprofit ensemble's performance history includes several appearances at New York's renowned Carnegie Hall. Closer to home, Cantare is an active part of El Dorado County's musical community, performing at the Placerville Festival of Lights, Memorial and Veterans Day tributes, and the Capitol Rotunda Holiday Music Program. About the Director Mariia Pechenova is Professor of Vocal and Choral Studies at Folsom Lake College and Artistic Director of Cantare Chorale of the Sierra Foothills. A conductor and vocalist, she holds a master's degree in conducting from St. Petersburg State University in Russia. She has received recognition from El Dorado County and a Certificate of Special Congressional Recognition for her work as a choral director and educator. Through her work with both ensembles, she helps singers develop their abilities and brings them together to share music with the community.
