- ➤ Folsom will host the free Pedal Quest and Balance Bike Bash in Historic Folsom on Saturday, May 2, from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. as riders choose varied self-guided routes and kids take part in safe cycling races (registration is encouraged due to limited space). Folsom Times

- ➤ Sac County supervisors honored 10 years of Capital Region Small Business Week during a recent meeting, setting plans for the event from May 3–9 that will feature awards, resource events and outreach to support small business owners. Folsom Times
CULTURE NEWS
- ➤ Back Bistro at the Palladio has announced its 2026 Live Music series, set to feature outdoor patio concerts every Saturday from 6 to 9 p.m. starting May 2 and continuing through October with local and regional acts. Folsom Times
EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ Two Folsom students from Gallardo Elementary secured first place nationally in the ExploraVision competition for their underwater rescue robot concept, UnderWatch Lifeguard (which uses AI to detect and respond quickly to drowning incidents). They will travel to Washington, D.C. to present the design following their regional win. Folsom Times
ENVIRONMENT NEWS
- ➤ SMUD will raise its rate for excess rooftop solar power from 7.4 to 9.6 cents per kWh starting June 1 to reward customers generating extra energy. The upgrade supports renewable energy goals and helps the utility move toward a clean power future. Folsom Times
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ Assemblyman Josh Hoover announced his youth mental wellness bill package, which includes digital wellness education, a K-8 smartphone limit, a social media age requirement, and outdoor learning incentives, and the legislation has advanced with bipartisan support in his district. Folsom Times
- ➤ SacRT secured a $3.76M funding award from the CPUC to expand its on-demand wheelchair-accessible transit service for seniors and riders with disabilities across Sacramento County — pending board approval on May 11, the program will add accessible vehicles and reduce wait times beginning July 1. SPORTS NEWS
- ➤ More than 1,200 cyclists will gather in Rancho Cordova for the annual Golden State Race Series from May 1–3. The event features a six-mile time trial on Friday, a 0.9-mile criterium on Saturday, and a 2.3-mile circuit on Sunday—drawing families and cycling fans. Folsom Times
