ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • Two kayakers were rescued Monday evening after strong winds turned Folsom Lake dangerous, and emergency teams—including the El Dorado Hills Fire Department and the County Sheriff’s Office—brought them ashore near Brown's Ravine with no injuries reported.  Folsom Times

CRIME NEWS

  • A Folsom officer who helped a stranded driver uncovered that a 47-year-old Sacramento woman had a loaded .38-caliber revolver and over 23 grams of methamphetamine in her car near the 2700 block of East Bidwell Street around 2 p.m. on May 1—she was arrested on multiple charges.  Folsom Times

CULTURE NEWS

  • Folsom’s Summer of Music Concert Series begins June 13 at Folsom City Lions Park at 403 Stafford Street with Adam Aldama and the Aces headlining free, family-friendly live music events. The series—continuing every other Thursday through July 25 and featuring Modern Relics, Superbad the Band and Clean Slate—offers food trucks and local vendors at each concert.  Folsom Times
  • The Folsom Historic District Association announced a free Summer Twilight Concert Series featuring 13 bands that will play every Thursday from June 5 through August 28 at the Zittel Family Amphitheater. Concerts run from 7:30 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. and parking is free at the Historic District Parking Garage at 905 Leidesdorff Street—community sponsors cover admission.  Folsom Times

ECONOMY NEWS

  • On Monday, The Metal Shop submitted its application to build the Folsom Ranch Sports Complex on a 21-acre site south of Highway 50—its plan calls for a 410,000-square-foot facility with a 3,000-seat arena, NHL-size ice sheets, and a covered outdoor turf field—and city officials will review the proposal to assess its impact on local sports and business.  Folsom Times

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Folsom Lake College's new science wing has nearly finished construction and now shows a glass façade and completed walls along College Parkway. The 75,000-square-foot facility will be ready later this month and will offer six biology labs, six chemistry labs, a science center, and energy-efficient features (LEED Silver certification planned) to support growing STEM classes.  Folsom Times

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • On April 30, the Folsom Police Department held its annual awards and promotion ceremony to honor officers, staff and community volunteers while promoting four officers to Corporal, three to Sergeant and two to Lieutenant. Lieutenant Lou Wright hosted the event and Police Chief Rick Hillman praised the department's outstanding service and bravery.  Folsom Times
