- ➤ The Folsom Garden Club announced that three local students became winners in the National Garden Club Smokey Bear/Woodsy Owl Poster Contest, with second grader Adaleen Cho earning the grand prize and her peers Tayden Cho and Vinaya Ganesh each taking first place for their grades. They will attend a recognition ceremony on July 16 at 3:00 p.m. at Camp Smokey at the California State Fair—arrivals begin at 2:30 p.m. Folsom Times
CRIME NEWS
- ➤ Matthew Muller, a convicted kidnapper and rapist featured in the American Nightmare documentary, was sentenced on Thursday to life without parole by Judge David Goldstein for an aggravated kidnapping in Contra Costa County and will serve his sentence with another for crimes at Folsom Lake in 1993 (when he was 16). - ➤ Jacob Wollwerth, a Folsom High student, won gold in 5-Axis CNC Machining at the SkillsUSA National Leadership & Skills Conference held in Atlanta from June 23rd to 27th. His achievement—being the first national win for his school’s Manufacturing and Product Development CTE Pathway—earned him more than $9,000 in scholarships, tools, and prizes and marked a historic milestone for the community. - ➤ A heat wave pressed northern California yesterday—valley temperatures reached about 103°F while wildfire smoke drifted into the Sacramento Valley—and residents now face continuing high temperatures with highs between 98°F and 105°F and unhealthy air quality for sensitive groups through the weekend. - ➤ Folsom’s Ernesto Reynoso was named to Junior Team USA by the USBC and will represent the United States at the PANAM Bowling Youth Championship in Guatemala City from August 9–16. He is a Vista del Lago High School student who recently won back-to-back Junior Gold National Championship titles—an achievement that earned him national recognition. Folsom Times
