COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Peaches in the Plaza returns this Sunday, August 3 from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Historic Folsom Plaza at 915 Sutter Street—organizers will offer peach-themed vendors, live music, carnival games, and family activities for all ages.  Folsom Times
  • Folsom Historic District Association will host an outdoor performance of Young Frankenstein by Sutter Street Theatre at Zittel Family Amphitheater on Saturday, August 30 at 8 p.m. Proceeds from $25 adult and $20 child ticket sales will benefit Santa’s Christmas Cottage—attendees are encouraged to bring chairs and can purchase refreshments on-site.  Folsom Times
  • Local nonprofits opened the new Sacramento RISE Hub to give quick legal help and education to immigrants after a Border Patrol raid took place on July 17. The hub—made up of Opening Doors, CAIR Sacramento Valley, the California Immigration Project, La Familia Counseling Center and NorCal Resist—covers six counties and will offer rapid legal aid, free legal advice and rights workshops.  Capital Public Radio

CRIME NEWS

  • The latest Folsom crime reports released through July 27 detail several incidents—including $25K antivirus fraud, retail theft, DUI arrests, and vandalism—with suspects ranging from teens to seniors and bookings at Sacramento County Jail.  Folsom Times
  • Lori Daby from Sacramento County got a phone call last Friday from someone pretending to be a police officer and warning her of arrest for missing a court hearing—before a deputy stepped in to stop the scam that was set to have her deposit money at a convenience store.  KCRA

CULTURE NEWS

  • The 2025 California State Fair ended on Sunday with more than 700,000 visitors, an 8% increase from last year. Organizers credited the cool weather and popular fair food—like cinnamon rolls sold every 20 seconds—for the strong turnout.  Folsom Times

HEALTH NEWS

  • Consumer Reports' Paul Hope says Folsom homeowners should cut grass to about three inches and remove debris to reduce tick risks. He recommends making a three‑foot barrier with dry wood chips or gravel—methods that help keep ticks away from pets and people.  KCRA

REAL ESTATE NEWS

  • New home sales in the Sacramento region fell to 313 in June — the lowest monthly total since 2022 — as many buyers held off purchases while waiting for lower interest rates. Roseville led with 66 sales while Folsom closed with 10, according to the North State Building Industry Association.  Folsom Times

SPORTS NEWS

  • At All American Speedway on Saturday night in Roseville, Kenna Mitchell from Loomis won the NASCAR Berco Redwood Late Model race while Tony Hunt of Rocklin won the NCMA Sprint Car feature—drawing a lively crowd over nearly 300 laps. Other races in the event saw winners in the INEX NorCal Legend Series, NAPA Super Stocks and F4, and the track will host NASCAR First Responders Night on August 30.  Folsom Times
