🏘️ Community
Stuart McIntyre, a WWII veteran from Fair Oaks, celebrated his 100th birthday on August 20 by sharing his Marine Corps service stories and reciting a Kipling poem—his community gathered at American Legion Post 383 to honor his milestone.
He enlisted at age 16 in December 1941 and his celebration highlights the rarity of veterans among the 16.4 million who served.
🏥 Health
Valley Fever cases are rising in California with Sacramento County showing a 26% increase, San Joaquin an 83% rise and Stanislaus a 62% jump—public health officials urge residents in dusty areas to wear masks and dampen soil before digging.
They warn that the fungus can cause cough, fever and chest pain, and advise careful practices when working outdoors.
