- ➤ Sac State students are having trouble getting the classes they need as high enrollment and course cuts limit the available sections—transfer students face longer waitlists than freshmen. - ➤ Community leaders launched Dolly Parton’s Imagination Library in Sacramento County on August 27, providing free monthly books to children under 5—supporting early literacy and aiming to enroll 65,000 kids over the next five years. Folsom Times
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ Folsom City Council formed a fire services committee and approved a plan to shift equipment and staffing starting October 1 to cut overtime costs while keeping all six fire stations open. City leaders said there will be no station closures—public safety stays the top priority as public meetings are set for September 23 and October 14. Folsom Times
- ➤ Folsom City Council approved a development agreement with Elliott Homes, Inc. and Broadstone Crossing Phase II, LLC for a project at 1565 Cavitt Drive that commits $3.6 million to roadway upgrades and $2.5 million to a pedestrian overcrossing—this deal secures public infrastructure improvements and sets the course for meeting traffic and safety standards as the project moves forward. - ➤ At Tuesday’s City Council meeting, Folsom approved a $541K deal with Dewberry Engineers Inc. to manage and inspect the Basin 4 Sewer Phase 1 Project, which will fix about 3,200 feet of sewer lines and repair manholes over roughly 150 days of work followed by a 90-day closeout period—city staff chose Dewberry for its best overall value after reviewing proposals. - ➤ Folsom Fire Department and Folsom Police Department are hosting a 9/11 remembrance gathering today at Folsom City Lions Park near the gazebo at 8:46 a.m.—residents are invited to honor those lost and the local first responders, marking 24 years since the attacks. - ➤ Folsom City Council approved a $160,906.25 purchase from Western Systems—Inc. on Sept 9 to install flashing yellow left-turn arrows at four intersections on Natoma Street, with funds coming from the Transportation Improvement Fund. The new system will let drivers turn left after yielding and will be tested in the coming months to see its effect on traffic flow and emissions. Folsom Times
- ➤ The Folsom City Council approved an ordinance Tuesday night that will set new speed limits on six roadways — East Bidwell Street, Westwood Drive, Alder Creek Parkway, Mangini Parkway and Grand Prairie Road — based on engineering surveys and state law.
