- ➤ In 1982, Folsom hosted the Great Snail Race—sponsored by the Chamber of Commerce to fund a sports complex—where snail handlers tried tricks like blowing on snails and feeding them beer. The Folsom Athletic Association later ran the race for 10 years and helped raise funds for a local high school scholarship. KCRA
- ➤ Tuesday evening, the Folsom City Council paused its regular meeting to honor five community champions with the Spirit of Folsom Awards—recognizing their volunteer service in libraries, parks, youth sports and other local projects. - ➤ Folsom’s Arthur Murray Dance Studio held a ribbon cutting ceremony Wednesday evening to mark its 10th anniversary and the opening of its new studio at 800 Reading Street. - ➤ A historic powerhouse that first brought electricity to Sacramento in 1895 is celebrating 130 years with an event on Saturday from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. at Folsom Powerhouse State Historic Park—visitors will see the original equipment and learn about how the plant powered early industry.
