Here's your local news at a glance for Tuesday, the 23rd of December.
Good morning, Folsom.
🏘️ Community
Judging for the Holiday Lights Contest is nearly complete as 60 entries brighten Folsom neighborhoods; winners will be announced today online while residents tour festive displays until a break in the rain arrives before Christmas Eve.
💼 Business
At Red Hawk Resort and Casino, a regular guest from Vacaville hit a $388,026 blackjack jackpot yesterday on Blackjack Super 4, adding holiday cheer to the casino floor.
The win comes during a busy season + the venue keeps hosting table games and live entertainment.
🌲 Environment
The National Weather Service in Sacramento has issued an Areal Flood Watch for Northern California through Friday afternoon as heavy rainfall from atmospheric river moisture may trigger localized flooding, including areas potentially affecting Folsom on the west slope of the Sierra (residents should monitor local updates for safety).
🏛️ Government
California will have an official state snake in 2026; in January, a new law names the giant garter snake (Thamnophis gigas) as the official state snake.
Michael Starkey of Save the Snakes pushed for the bill and the California Rice Commission played a key role.
