CRIME NEWS

  • Folsom local Ruslan Kochkin was sentenced to 10 years in state prison Tuesday in Sacramento County after pleading guilty to supplying fentanyl that caused a fatal overdose on Sutter Street in January 2024—marking the first conviction of a drug dealer for a fentanyl-related homicide in the county—official court documents confirm.  Folsom Times

CULTURE NEWS

  • Billy Williams (a singer and songwriter) will perform on Friday from 8 p.m. to 10 p.m. at the Stage Bar in Red Hawk Resort Casino while Gotcha Covered will play on Saturday from 10 p.m. to 2 a.m.; both free events (for guests 21 or older) offer an energetic live music weekend in Folsom.  Folsom Times
  • Friends of the Folsom Powerhouse will host the 9th Annual Powerfest Taps & Tunes on Saturday, June 7 from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at the Folsom Powerhouse State Historic Park where guests will sample local beers, listen to live music by Lo-Fi Lowdown, and take guided historic tours—tickets cost $40 until June 3—tickets will be $45 afterward.  Folsom Times
  • Folsom Powerhouse hosted Country Thursdays on May 29 when Kirk Basquez offered free line dancing lessons at 7:30 p.m. and then performed his mix of traditional and modern country at 9:00 p.m.—the venue provided free parking and a shuttle for guests 21 and over.  Folsom Times

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Two Folsom teens from St. Francis Catholic High took first place at the Monterey Bay Regional Competition for robotics — their robots completed tasks like environmental monitoring and DNA analysis. Senior Darlene Eugenio will compete at the world championships this June in Alpena, Michigan — while freshman Deselyn Galang and her team look to build on their success in future contests.  Folsom Times
  • Folsom Times and Folsom TV livestreamed Folsom, Vista del Lago, and Cordova High School graduation ceremonies on YouTube, with Folsom High School’s event held yesterday at 7:00 p.m. and Vista del Lago and Cordova High schools scheduled for today at 6:00 p.m.—the free broadcasts ensure that more family members and friends can watch the ceremonies regardless of seating or mobility issues.  Folsom Times
